Hot – Dip Galvanizing

We would like to introduce our newly established hot dip galvanizing plant of the Mogami Steel Tech (Pvt) Ltd, Kumbuka Road, Raigama Road, Bandaragama which has been in the business for last two years.

In the process in galvanizing are done in accordance with the international recommendations and Japanese Standard JIS H 864. Coating thickness of galvanize is exceeding in the minimum as indicated in the relevant guidelines and standards. The dimension of the galvanizing bath is 3200×1000×1400 in mm (L×W×D).

We have a well established track record, our service has already met with great customer satisfaction. We offer great service at a very competitive price have never been known to compromise on the quality of our service.

Summary of the galvanizing process

Hot dip galvanization is the process of coating iron and steel with a layer of zinc by immersing the metal in a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of around 450oC.

The process of hot-dip galvanizing results in a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel with a series of distinct iron-Zinc alloys. The resulting coated steel can be used in much the same way as uncoated.

The hot-dip galvanizing line operation as follows:

  • The steel is pickled in sulfuric acid solution to remove mill scale and clean the surface.
  • The pickling solution is rinsed off.
  • A flux, (zinc chloride and ammonium chloride) is applied to the steel to inhibit oxidation of the cleaned surface upon exposure to air. The flux is allowed to dry on the steel and aids in the process of the liquid zinc wetting and adhering to the steel.
  • The steel is dipped into the molten zinc bath and held there until the temperature of the steel equilibrates with that of the bath.
  • The steel is cooled in a quench tank to reduce its temperature and inhibit undesirable reactions of the newly formed coating with the atmosphere.
